Arestin®
Arestin is a topical antibiotic that directly treats the bacteria that cause periodontal (gum) disease. Along with scaling and root planing treatment (deep periodontal cleaning), Arestin can assist in preventing your periodontal disease from getting worse and allow you to have a healthy mouth for years to come.
Arestin is a powder composed of hundreds of thousands of tiny microspheres that release antibiotics over time. Typically after a deep periodontal cleaning or a periodontal maintenance appointment, our hygienist will add Arestin to the pocket between your gum and tooth. Completely painless, the microsphere powder will adhere to the cleaned tooth surface and dissolve on its own. It will provide a sustained release of minocycline at the site of active infection and will continue working long after your visit is over.
